Linganore Reggae Wine Festival

Are you a connoisseur of wines? Well, you really don’t have to be in order to enjoy the wine tasting at festivals such as the ones held at the Linganore Winery (http://www.linganore-wine.com/) in Mt. Airy, MD. Each year there are numerous themed wine festivals at Linganore Winery which are two day events. You get to taste the wines as well as tour the winery.
We have attended two of these wine festivals each year for the past 15 years or more. One is the Caribbean themed festival (in May) and the other is the Reggae themed festival (in July). Each one has two live bands performing while you are chilling on your blanket, in your lawn chair or under your tent (yes there is tent city) sipping on the many flavors of red wine, white wine, sweet wine, dry wine, and more. These events are the two BIGGEST of the summer which easily draws thousands of people from everywhere around the world and from all races, genders and cultures. You’ve not attended a wine festival until you attend a Linganore Caribbean or Reggae Wine Festival.
Imagine listening and dancing to hot Caribbean sounds while enjoying friends and family under the sun. As you are sipping on your wine, you will be munching on the delicious food in your picnic basket which is filled with all kind of goodies. However if you like, there are food vendors there to help with your appetite. One of our favorite vendors is the almond man, Jimmy. He has the best cinnamon roasted almonds ever. You get them hot out of the mixture. Jimmy also has pecan as well. Get to him early because he may sell out before you know it.
Over the years the crowd’s favorite entertainment has been Image Band from Washington, DC. They are one of the largest and best Soca and Reggae bands in the Caribbean community in the DC area. They have live horns A.K.A. Rude Brass. Image has been together for over 30 years and they are still making the crowd jump and wine (a Caribbean dance move). The members are from the Virgin Islands, Grenada, Ghana, Antigua, Nevis and Kentucky. They are great so get their CD’s whenever you get a chance.
If you don’t like large crowds, these events may not be for you. You have to plan on getting there early and leaving late. The traffic in and out of the winery can get crazy because of the narrow winding roads and the volume of traffic. On the other hand, if you like to dance and have fun, these events are for you…
When you attend this popular excursion that’s just outside of Washington DC and Baltimore, pack plenty of water, sodas and ice because the sun can be hot at times in the summer. We recommend for your safety that you have a designated driver or ride one of the excursion motor coaches from a city near you. If you would like our assistance, email us at email@yourvacationhotspots.com. Most importantly have plenty of fun and bring the whole gang with you because the more the merrier!
