2009 Family Reunion Cruise Review

Are you looking for new ideas for your next family reunion, class reunion, or group gathering? Then think about this idea. We just returned from our first family reunion cruise, which was a 4day/3night cruise from Miami to Nassau in the Caribbean. Everyone had a Blast. That’s right. We all meet up in Miami the night before at a hotel near the port which we had reserved enough rooms to sleep four in each and went to the port the next morning as a group. We had a hotel shuttle that was free to the port as well as to and from the airport to the hotel.

Once on the ship we all went to lunch on the Lido deck. Don’t forget all your food is included and there is enough to choose for everyone’s taste. The kids had fun in the pool and the many activities while onboard. The adults enjoyed the adult only deck which had lounge chairs and two Jacuzzis. Some of the adults even had Spa moments for complete relaxation. Everywhere you went there were food and drinks (some were at a cost). However, the non-carbonated drinks were free. We all meet up for dinner each evening to talk about our activities of the day. We then went to the show and/or dancing after dining. That’s right, free entertainment is included too.

We had one port of call, Nassau, Bahamas. We were there overnight so that gave us plenty of time to see the island and shop at the straw market for souvenirs. The kids went off to a beach to Jet Ski and had much to talk about at dinner. The adults, well we hired a taxi for us to tour the island and see where most of the Bahamian people live from the richest to the not so rich. The Atlantis on Paradise Island was our final stop. The Atlantis is Phenomenal!!

Just think about it. We did not have to fire up the grill, reserve a park pavilion, and select a banquet hall or even a host hotel. Everything was pretty much included even a conference room for family meetings. We actually used it free of charge twice while onboard. One night on the cruise was a formal night so we did get the chance to dress up in our Sunday’s best and have cocktails with the Captain. The kids had fruit punch of course.

There was little preparation on our part as the hosting family. Just remember everyone needs a passport to travel even the babies. So make sure everyone knows that in advance. We all parted our separate ways once back on land the talk was “When is the next family cruise?” Keep it simple next year and plan your family reunion or group cruise now. Get it book now so that you can make payments on it each month ,if you have to, up until 60 days before sailing. Bon Voyage!!
